I Am the Way

Duration:1 hr 10 mins 5 secs

I Am the Way

DEUTERONOMY 8:5-10

5   Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee.

6   Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.

     7   For the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills;

     8   A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey;

9   A land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest dig brass.

10     ¶ When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the LORD thy God for the good land which he hath given thee.

JOHN 14:5-6

5   Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

6   Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

I Am the Way – Bible study

JOHN 14:6

6   Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

There are 3 things that Jesus said of himself - that he is the “Way” and that he is the “Truth” and that he is the “Life”.

Since the Garden of Eden, it seems that most people have had a problem with the God’s truth and God’s ways.

Like Pilot said to Jesus, “what is truth”.

Most people will believe a lie a 100 times easier than they will believe the truth.

They will believe that Eve ate apples and that’s what caused man’s separation from God, but tell them about the serpent seed being the original sin and they will laugh in disbelief and walk away.

But it is not just the truth of God’s word that people struggle with; it is also the “Way” of God.

ISAIAH 55:9

9   For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

- Notice how that ways and thoughts are connected together.

**Many people want to get to God, but they want to get to Him by their own way – but we know that there is only one provided way and that is Christ who is the word.

GOD'S.PROVIDED.PLACE.OF.WORSHIP_ LA.CA V-18 N-2 SUNDAY_ 65-0425

136   … God has got one provided way. It isn't Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian; but it's Jesus Christ, by the new Birth, believing that Bible. That's God's provided way, and the only way that He has, is in Jesus Christ, His Son. And, in His Son, He placed His Name. His! God's Name is Jesus, 'cause He came in His Father's Name. And so that would be God's Name, because He was God.

But the denominations can’t accept that, they have to have their own way of 3 persons in the God head, and water baptism in title of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost and woman preachers and eternal hell and all the false doctrines of man.

And sometimes, even as believers in the revealed word of the hour, we also want to get to God, but unconsciously we want to do it our own way.

PROVERBS 16:25

25     ¶ There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

PROVERBS 14:14a

14     ¶ The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways:

Most children as they are growing up want their own way of getting things, and so even as adults we can carry that idea over into our adult life with the things of God.

PROVERBS 16:25

25     ¶ There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

A way is like a pathway, it is what gets you from A to B. We all want to get from A to B in our lives (whatever the destination that “B” stands for us personally), and God wants us to get to the destination of “B”, but he has provided a way for us to do that.

MATTHEW 6:33

33   But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

But many don’t want to get there by the path of seeking and putting God first in their lives. Even though that is the way that he has told us to walk by, we want to get to prosperity or to health or to financial freedom, or whatever else by our own path of how we think it would be best to get there, and mostly that is by copying the way that the world does things.

The world will tell you to “Seek ye an education first, and get a good JOB first, and earn a good income first, and pay lots of tax first, and then all these things will be added unto you” - that is the way the world thinks, and many of us unconsciously buy into that worldly thinking, and in most cases people who follow this way don’t make it to any promised land.

JONAH 1:1-4 Jonah wanted his own way because he thought that life would be much harder for him if he did it God’s way – but we find that the exact opposite was true.

1     ¶ Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

2   Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.

3   But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.

4     ¶ But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

Jonah is a type of every true believer..

Cain’s problem was not that he didn’t want to worship God; his problem was that he wanted to do it by his own way, and even after he was told by God the correct way, he refused it because he was not willing to surrender his way to God’s way, but you will either come God’s way or not at all.

THE.REJECTED.KING_ JEFF.IN V-2 N-23 SUNDAY_ 60-0515M

7-2   It was a time that as, in all times, that people has never wanted God to lead them. They want their own way of leadership. And this story this morning... And when you go to your home, it would be good for you to read it all the way through. It was during the time of the--the days of Samuel, the man of God, the prophet. And he'd been a just man and a good man: honorable, reputable, true, and honest with the people, never deceiving them, and telling them nothing but straight, THUS SAITH THE LORD.

7-3   But the people had come to a place where they wanted to change this program. They had looked upon the Philistines, and the Amalekites, Amorites, Hittites, and the other nations of the world, and they had seen that they had kings that ruled them, and governed them, and guided them, and fought their battles, and so forth. And this seemed to be that Israel wanted to pattern themselves like these kings and like these people.

But it has never been, in any age, God's intention for His people to act like the people of the world, or to be governed or controlled like the people of the world. God's people is, always has been, a--a peculiar people, a different people, a called-out, a separated, an altogether different in their action, in their ways, in their manner of living, than what the peoples of the world has. Their appetites for things and all that their makeup is, has been always contrary to the things that the people of the world desire.

Naaman wanted to be healed of his leprosy, but he wanted to do it on his own terms and in his own way and not the way that the prophet told him to do it.
